Upper School Athletics

A Small School with Big Benefits for Committed Athletes

The exhilaration of a hard-fought game, the bonds between teammates, the thrill of putting your preparation to the test and seeing it pay off… at Derryfield, we can’t imagine life without these and all of the other great aspects of competitive sports. Here, it’s a win-win situation; we offer both great team experiences and excellent individual player development.

Athletes in College

Students who are looking for a program that can give them the competitive game experience and expert coaching to reach the next level can find it here. Talented freshman can and do play at the varsity level, thereby gaining invaluable game experience over the course of their Derryfield careers. Athletes looking to excel will benefit from Derryfield’s coaching staff, six of whom have been inducted into the NHIAA Hall of Fame. We also boast multiple coaches who have played their sport at its highest level. Our graduating varsity athletes go on to play in college (100+ colleges and universities in the past 10 years) – and some go even further!

Alternatives

Independent Sports

Another option for upper school students is the Independent Physical Activity (IPA) contract, which allows students to design an activity program under the supervision of the Athletic Director and their advisor. The IPA is designed to accommodate the upper school student who is involved in a physical/athletic activity not offered by the school. Upper school students wishing to pursue an IPA must submit an application for approval to the Director of Athletics. Forms are available in the athletic office.

Non-Competitive Options

For students interested in non-competive wellness options we offer yoga, strength training, and aerobics. Our goal is to help you feel empowered, energized, and ready to take on whatever challenges come your way.
