World Travel Programs Strengthen Connections

Elaine Loft, Staff Writer

Every year Derryfield offers a variety of global travel experiences to students in both the Middle and Upper school. Innovative programming strengthens students’ ability to communicate effectively across social and cultural barriers, with the goal of gaining skills to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world. During the weekly Community Meeting on September 9, Dr. Brandon Gauthier, Director of Global Education, presented the trips scheduled for March 2025.

Middle School students will have the opportunity to travel to the United Kingdom to study the history of England, with a particular emphasis on British contributions to theater. Upper School students have many choices. They can venture to Venice, Salzburg, Vienna and Prague on a “Amadeus and the Arts” tour, or test their mettle in Nepal. The “Traditions of the Himalayas” tour includes a visit to a UNESCO world heritage site, learning some Nepali, experiencing a four-day home stay with families from the Magar community, and hiking 25 miles through the Himalayas. Also, Derryfield students will travel to Winston-Salem to celebrate the school’s 18th year of partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Over the years participants have helped to construct over twenty affordable houses.

To learn more about all of the innovative programming available at the Derryfield School, register here for one of the upcoming information sessions, or attend Open House on Sunday, November 3 to hear about Derryfield’s curriculum, arts, athletics, global travel opportunities and more during campus tours.
