Director of Admission: Mike Kelley arrives at Derryfield having spent last year at Berwick Academy in Berwick, Maine, where he served as the associate director of admission and director of flexible tuition. Prior to his time at Berwick, Mr. Kelley supported enrollment efforts for ten years at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, MA as the associate director of admission. Mr. Kelley earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brown University, and a Masters of Education from Boston College.
Auxiliary Programs Manager and Varsity Boys’ Basketball Coach: Mitchell Roy comes to Derryfield after teaching at Campbell High School in Litchfield, NH, and serving as the head boys’ varsity basketball coach at Alvirne High School in Hudson, NH. Previously, Mr. Roy spent four years at Profile High School in Bethlehem, NH, where he served in numerous roles, including interim director of athletics, director of facilities, and head boys varsity basketball coach. Mr. Roy has a Bachelor of Science from Endicott College, and a Master of Arts in Leadership Studies from Vermont State University.
Upper and Middle School English Departments
Becca Sasso is joining Derryfield from Pinkerton Academy in Derry, where for the past four years she has taught multiple levels of high school English, and supported numerous student activities and professional development initiatives. Prior to her time at Pinkerton, Ms. Sasso spent six years at St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury, VT, where she taught high school English, coached, and served as a residential proctor. Ms. Sasso has both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in teaching from the University of New Hampshire. In addition to teaching she will serve as the assistant to drama productions.
Katy Varga-Wells is a veteran teacher of three independent schools–Frederick Gunn School in Washington, CT, Kent School in Kent, CT, and most recently Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro–where she has taught English, coached crews, and served as a dorm parent. Ms. Varga-Wells earned a Bachelor of Arts from Connecticut College and a Master of Arts in teaching from Columbia University. She will coach crew at Derryfield.
Katelyn Weeks has taught at the Northfield Mount Hermon School Summer session each of the last three years, and as a teaching assistant of an undergraduate English course at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where she received both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in teaching. Ms. Weeks will coach middle school boys’ soccer and alpine skiing.
