Assistant Director of Athletics
Overview:
The Derryfield School seeks a dynamic, collaborative, and forward-thinking Assistant Director of Athletics to support the Director of Athletics in leading a high-functioning athletic department while also serving as the School’s leader in Strength & Conditioning and fitness programming. This position blends athletic administration, program development, wellness education, and direct instruction.
The Assistant Director of Athletics supports the day-to-day operations of the athletic department while developing and leading a comprehensive Strength & Conditioning (S&C) program for students in grades 6–12. The role includes coordination with the Director of Athletics and Director of Wellness to ensure that S&C programming aligns with and enhances the LEAD curriculum and broader wellness initiatives, and includes responsibility for revenue-generating programs.
Athletic Department The Assistant Director of Athletics supports the Director of Athletics to fulfill the day-to-day operations of the athletic department.
● Support the Director of Athletics (AD) with scheduling and rescheduling of games and practices using and coordinating with multiple software platforms.
● Assist the AD in responding to parents, athletes, and community members.
● Participate in the hiring process of coaches and Athletic & Wellness (A&W) staff.
● Serve as lead social media coordinator for the athletic department.
● Provide administrative coverage at athletic events (two of the three seasons, when not coaching), including: ○ Greeting officials and ensuring arrival
○ Crowd oversight and game management
○ Back-up scoreboard operation
○ Managing unexpected issues (“putting out fires”)
● Help coordinate logistical support for all athletic events, home and away.
● Create and reinforce a culture of team responsibility for field/court set-up and breakdown.
● Open locker rooms and team rooms for visiting teams and officials; conduct final facility checks of the A&W building.
● Oversee uniform and equipment distribution, collection, inventory, and storage.
● Coordinate athletic locker distribution: ○ Assign lockers to new middle school students
○ Ensure advisors distribute lockers to upper school students
○ Collaborate with Division Heads and AD to ensure completion
● Distribute varsity athletic awards at the end of each season.
● Serve as an Upper School advisor.
● Coach one sport per year.
● Serve on the Athletic Committee and represent the AD at Curriculum Committee meetings when AD is not able to attend.
Strength & Conditioning & Fitness The Assistant Director of Athletics serves as the School’s leader in Strength & Conditioning and fitness programming.
Program Development & Instruction
● Design and implement a comprehensive, age-appropriate S&C program for grades 6–12.
● Offer and instruct 2–3 blocks of Strength & Conditioning daily.
● Offer after-school S&C programming (2:30–4:30 p.m.) for middle and upper school students and staff for two seasons; collaborate with Division Heads and Director of Athletics to train staff for third season coverage.
● Develop individualized fitness programs for students, faculty, staff, and athletic teams.
● Ensure programming reflects best practices in youth training and long-term athletic development (familiarity with the Boyle Method preferred).
Integration with LEAD & Wellness
● Collaborate with the Director of Wellness and LEAD Department to design and teach fitness components of the LEAD curriculum from a holistic wellness perspective.
● Contribute to health, wellness, SEL, and leadership instruction within the A&W curriculum.
● Teach 1–2 A&W exploration classes per semester (e.g., climbing, pickleball, volleyball, basketball).
● Work with the AD to develop and staff Exploration offerings in A&W.
A&W Facility Oversight & Experiential Programming
● Oversee and maintain the cardio and S&C facilities in partnership with the AD.
● Provide instruction in and oversee maintenance of the climbing wall and high/low ropes courses.
● Develop curricular and co-curricular programming utilizing the A&W.
● Develop and oversee revenue-producing after hours S&C programming for students, staff, alumni, and community members, including personal (or small group) training programs.
● Develop revenue-producing summer programming. Revenue goals for this position will be set annually.

Athletic Coaching Openings
The Derryfield School is seeking enthusiastic, student-centered coaches to join our athletics program. Our coaches play an important role in helping student-athletes develop skills, confidence, character, and a love of competition while contributing to a positive team culture.
Current coaching openings include:
• Varsity Rowing Head Coach and Assistant Coaches (2–3 positions)
• Varsity or JV Assistant Field Hockey Coach
• Middle School Boys Basketball Assistant Coach
• Varsity Track & Field Assistant Coach
• Middle School Girls Lacrosse Co-Head Coach or Assistant Coach
Coaching stipends are competitive and based on years of experience, coaching background, and level of responsibility.

Events Coordinator & Parent-Faculty Association Liaison
The Events Coordinator & Parent-Faculty Association (PFA) Liaison is a high-impact, collaborative role responsible for the end-to-end execution of signature Philanthropy & Engagement (P&E) events and serving as the primary professional bridge to the PFA. This position is highly collaborative, working closely with the marketing team on social media and school leadership on community engagement. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with high social-emotional intelligence, excellent communication skills, and an entrepreneurial spirit who can manage complex logistics while maintaining a warm, professional presence for our families and donors.
Core Responsibilities
1. Philanthropy & Engagement (P&E) Event Coordination Lead the planning and logistical execution for all major Philanthropy events to ensure a seamless experience for the Derryfield community.
- Event Portfolio: Manage GrandFriends’ & Founders’ Day, Fall Philanthropy Kick-Off, Reunion, Regional Alumni Gatherings, Alumni Winter Break Lunch, Alumni athletic events (Lax/MHT, Basketball, Soccer), Spirit Days (3x), and house parties.
- End-to-End Logistics: Pull invite lists, create nametags, decor, coordinate with the Buildings & Grounds team and IT/Audio-Tech, and book facilities via the master calendar. Support other campus events as needed.
- Communications: Design and distribute digital invites/pushpages, build registration landing pages, and maintain event-related website content.
- Vendor & Budget Management: Coordinate rentals, décor, bartending and catering with external vendors; manage the events budget to ensure fiscal responsibility.
2. PFA Liaison & Volunteer Management: Serve as the primary administrative partner for the PFA, ensuring their initiatives are organized and supported.
- Leadership Partnership: Meet monthly with PFA President; attend semi-annual meetings with the Head of School to align goals and assist with succession planning.
- Volunteer Support: Help recruit and support Class Parents; lead Class Parent orientations and support various PFA committee chairs.
- Administrative Oversight: Create registration forms/links when needed, maintain all parent nametags, complete work orders for PFA events, and coordination supply orders.
- Cookie Swap: Manage the Staff Holiday Cookie Exchange, including staff allergy surveys, kitchen coordination, and gift card purchasing.
- Spring Celebration: Support PFA volunteers and P&E team on execution of annual spring Music Bingo fundraiser.
3. Major School Milestone Support: Provide logistical leadership for high-profile school-wide events that bridge the gap between student life and the broader community.
- Graduation & Milestones: Serve as a key member of the planning team for Graduation (logistics, rentals, etc.), the Back-to-School Picnic, and Back to School Night.
4. Social Media & Communications
- Digital Strategy: Support marketing & communications with social media execution across Meta (Instagram/Facebook) and LinkedIn; manage the social media calendar to promote events and build engagement.
- Editorial Support: Assist with content development, writing, and editing for Derryfield Today.
- Event Postcards: Coordinate with MarCom on creation and distribution of quarterly event postcards sent to the community.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Relationship Management: High social-emotional intelligence and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders (parents, donors, and staff).
- Organizational Mastery: Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
- Communication: Strong professional writing, design (Canva), and oral communication skills.
- Technical Proficiency: Ability to navigate donor databases, website CMS, and social media platforms.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited educational institution and 1-3 years of related experience.
- Preferred: * Experience with Raiser’s Edge or similar donor management systems. ○ Experience with Canva, Google Business Suite, and social media strategy. ○ Background in independent school advancement or event management.

- Functions in accordance with New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act, Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, and the school policies and procedures
- Promotes and maintains good health as well as the prevention of illnesses and injuries
- Acts in a manner that respects the dignity, confidentiality, and rights of all students and staff
- Upholds regulations and laws related to confidentiality, reporting of child abuse and neglect, and other health-related requirements
General Skills/Knowledge/Aptitudes:
- Current CPR, AED certification
- Graduate or currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program
