Summary Description:
Derryfield is seeking a one-year temporary faculty member to teach in the Visual Arts. As a faculty
member, act as a positive educator and role model for the School community of students, parents,
alumni, trustees, and colleagues. Faculty members’ general duties include teaching up to 4 1⁄3 classes,
coaching two sports or the equivalent, advising students, leading an activity, serving on a committee, providing extra help to students, and attending school events and school year faculty orientation. The typical student load is 55-65 students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Visual Arts Teacher:
● Teach a variety of middle and upper school Visual Art classes, potentially including introductory Middle School courses, Graphic Design, Digital Photography, and/or Ceramics.
● Promote learning, creativity, and self-expression in Art by the students.

Skills/Knowledge/Aptitudes:
● Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Preferred) in subject matter.
● Energetic, patient, and inspiring teacher and leader.
● Three or more years of successful classroom teaching experience and experience with
implementing technology and multimedia in the classroom. Demonstrable computer literacy skills.

Upper School Latin Teacher

The Derryfield School seeks an enthusiastic and dedicated Latin teacher for grades 9-12.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background in Latin and Ancient cultures. The candidate must be able to teach Levels 2-4 of Latin and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, an innovative approach to teaching a world language in the 21st Century, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Must be capable of teaching Latin at the advanced level (i.e. college equivalent courses). Responsibilities of the position include a combination of classroom teaching, program development, student advising, and tutoring.

Part Time or Full Time Academic Support Teacher

The Academic Support team plays an important role in the academic experience of Derryfield students by maintaining close communication with classroom teachers and advisors to identify students needing academic support and to provide the instruction and support they need to be successful.

The Part Time Academic Support teacher will teach two sections of Academic Foundations in the fall, followed by some combination of Academic Foundations and/or Academic Support classes in the winter and spring terms, as determined by student sign ups. In addition to lesson planning and teaching the course, there is some additional support needed beyond class time for individual students. There are also regular meetings with the Academic Support team to discuss and review the curriculum and the students and to collaborate on best practices.

The Full Time Academic Support teacher will teach two sections of Academic Foundations in the fall, followed by some combination of Academic Foundations and/or Academic Support classes in the winter and spring terms, as determined by student sign ups in the Upper School. They will also proctor structure study halls in the Middle School and provide after school “Academic Power” support to middle school students. In addition to lesson planning and teaching the course, there is some additional support needed beyond class time for individual students. There are also regular meetings with the Academic Support team to discuss and review the curriculum and the students and to collaborate on best practices. A full time role also includes 2 seasons of coaching or the equivalent.

Physical and psychological demands:

  • The employee is frequently required to stand at least 70% of time, 15% walking, and 15% sitting
  • Must be physically and mentally capable of performing multiple tasks (such as phone calls, computer work, and receiving visitors all while teaching and assisting students) and be capable of consistently functioning well in a fast-paced environment

Finding quality coaches who have the time and flexibility to coach in the afternoons is becoming harder and harder for a variety of reasons. While experience and knowledge of the sport is often required and helpful, there are also plenty of opportunities for adults who are new or novice to coaching, but have the desire to learn. Sub/Per Diem Nurse

The priority for the substitute school nurse is to oversee and provide for the individual health needs of students while the regular nurse is away temporarily or work in conjunction with the regular nurse as back up support.

  • Promotes and maintains good health as well as the prevention of illnesses and injuries
  • Acts in a manner that respects the dignity, confidentiality, and rights of all students and staff
  • Upholds regulations and laws related to confidentiality, reporting of child abuse and neglect, and other health-related requirements

  • Current CPR, AED certification
