Brandon Gauthier, Ph.D.

Brandon K. Gauthier, Ph.D. teaches Asia: East and West and Riots, Revolutions, Reforms: European History. Within the classroom, he prioritizes the use of primary sources, including period music, as well as memoirs and first-hand accounts of historical subjects, making students feel as well as think. In the process, he engages his students in debates about ethical conundrums in history with no clear answers. Brandon completed his doctorate in Modern History at Fordham University in May 2016, specializing in the study of U.S. foreign policy in East Asia. He previously taught at Fordham University, Manhattanville College, and Ramapo College of New Jersey. He has written for The Atlantic website, the Journal of American-East Asian Relations, the North Korea International Documentation Project, The Journal of East Asian Affairs, Yonsei Journal of International Studies, The Concord Monitor, The Shreveport Times, and NKnews.org. In his spare time, Brandon enjoys listening to vinyl records by James Brown and Johnny Cash at loud volumes.
