Head Coach: Drew Hill
The Derryfield Varsity Baseball team is a member of the NHIAA Class S southern conference. The program has been under the direction of Coach Jeff Hastings for 10 seasons. The team has a strong tradition appearing in the playoffs for 10 consecutive seasons, reaching the state finals 3 times and winning the state title in 2003. The program routinely has players recognized for All-State Honors and has been fortunate to have three players earn Class S Player-of-the-Year. Derryfield has had several players graduate from the program and further their careers at the collegiate level. We believe our success has been bred through a disciplined and intelligent approach to learning the fundamentals of the game as well as the belief that team comes before individual achievement.
Jeffrey Hastings is a PE teacher, sixth-grade advisor, and coach for the Upper School baseball team. Mr. Hastings’ own achievements include holding five collegiate baseball records, winning four MVP awards in state semi-pro baseball leagues, and in recent years playing professional ball for the Nashua Pride and Israel Baseball League (documented in the film Holy Land Hardball).
Coaching philosophy: “While many kinds of sports and activities are offered at Derryfield, the emphasis is on the growth of each individual, whatever that person’s level of ability.”
