Lacrosse - Varsity Boys
2021 - 2022
Head Coach: Christopher Hettler
The Varsity Boys' Lacrosse team is a member of the NHIAA Division II lacrosse conference. The varsity program has a rich tradition as one of the original schools in the state to play the sport. Players are routinely recognized for All-State awards by area coaches. In recent years we have experienced success that has ranked us among the top programs in not only Division II, but in the entire State. Derryfield recently held the nation's longest winning streak (65 games). The program has also routinely placed players in college who are still playing today. The team is comprised of players of all ability levels who work hard to compete and improve the team’s and their own level of play. Derryfield won its' first NH State Championship in 2010 and again in 2013, also finishing runner up in 2014 (DIII) and 2015 (DII). Since moving to division two, the program has won four straight state titles ('16-'19).
Chris Hettler does it all. He is the former head coach of varsity boys’ and girls’ alpine ski team, and current varsity boys' lacrosse. He has also coached the JV golf and middle school co-ed cross country team during his tenure here at Derryfield. Chris attended Colgate University and was a four-year letterman as a goaltender for the men's lacrosse team and was also named to the Patriot League academic honor roll. He was then drafted into Major League Lacrosse where he played four years with the Boston Cannons (MLL) and two years with the professional indoor team, the Boston Rockhoppers (NLL). Chris has also served as the SNHU women's lacrosse team goalie coach as well as the St. Anselm's men's goalie coach. He is also currently the youth director for the NH Tomahawks, a premier lacrosse club that is nationally known. Chris started at Derryfield in 2002, taking over a lacrosse program that was only playing at the club level and has transformed it into one of the top 5 teams in the state. In 2009 and 2010, Chris was named Division III Coach of the Year and Union Leader Coach of the Year for New Hampshire Lacrosse. Chris was again selected as Division II Coach of the Year in 2018. Since taking over the program Chris has guided the team to over 200 wins and six state championships. Chris has also helped his players to achieve their college playing aspirations by placing multiple kids on college teams at the division one, two and three levels. Internationally Chris has served as a Defensive Coach for the Men's English National Lacrosse Team as well as Team Germany. He is currently serving as an assistant coach for the Scottish National Team in the upcoming European and World Championships.
