2020 - 2021
Head Coach: Michael Leary
The Derryfield Boys' Varsity Tennis program has a long history of success, garnering twelve state championships over the last 28 years. Facilities include six hard surface courts on campus, and the program has a tremendous following with nearly 30 boys competing at the varsity and junior varsity level. Beginning in 2011, Derryfield returned to competing in Division I and Division II New Hampshire tennis and, despite being the smallest team in either league, has competed successfully against the strongest programs in the state. Equally important to the program's winning history has been its devotion to the highest level of sportsmanship on the courts. The team motto has always been "We will be respected both for our success and our character." The team won the Division II State Championship in the spring of 2014 and for the next 2-year cycle, the program will return to Division I, starting with the 2015 spring season.
A native of Virginia, Mike Leary played tennis at Gettysburg College for four years and was the team captain his senior year. Mike has coached tennis at all levels, has been coaching high school tennis for the past four years, and holds a certification from the USPTA. On the court, Mike seeks to develop the skills and technique necessary to compete at the highest levels in the state. His relationship with the players extends to the classroom, where he drives his students to be the best student-athletes they can be.
Located in Manchester, NH, The Derryfield School is a private day school for grades 6-12. Students benefit from a challenging academic program, fine and performing arts, competitive athletics, and a wide selection of extracurricular activities.
