  • Lacrosse - MS Girls

    2021 - 2022
    Head Coach: Laura Russell

The Derryfield Middle School Girls' Lacrosse team embodies the philosophy of middle school athletics. While the roster boasts of some excellent and experienced young athletes every year, the majority of our players are picking up lacrosse sticks for the very first time. Many of our players get 'hooked', and move on to varsity level lacrosse in the upper school. Ultimately, it is the enthusiasm and team spirit of our players that makes every year an incredible amount of fun.

  • Giving One's Best

With our final two games, the Cougars were faced with formidable strong opponents, but team pride was still evident in the way players played both games to the very last second. Improved communication and a better sense of the flow of the game raised the team's confidence. Our 8th graders pushed themselves hard, knowing this was their last MS showing; the 7th graders demonstrated that they will be strong leaders next spring, and the 6th graders did not let anyone intimidate them! We are immensely grateful to our GKs this spring. Ella, Chloe, and Amelia all gave us 110% in the game, and we are so proud of their courage in the net! Thanks also to all the adults who supported us this spring. From being a fan, providing snacks, and just patiently awaiting our late returns, we appreciate you!!

  • First Half / Second Half

The DS Cougars came out like gangbusters in the first half of their rematch against the Kearsarge Cougars. The team's communication was outstanding across the field. The defenders were vocal and focused in their support of GK Ella, the midfield was courageous in the summer-like heat, and the attack cleared the path for several convincing goals. Unfortunately, Kearsarge's redoubled efforts put them ahead throughout the second half, and in spite of several more well-fought DS goals, the visiting Cougars could not find their way back up against the team they have been the most competitive against. However, Coaches Langsten and Russell reminded the team that this was their best showing of the season in terms of effective communication and more sophisticated play.

  • Pushing on Through

After a week of very few practices, the DS MS GLAX Cougars traveled to Concord Christian Academy's thickly carpeted field for challenging match, that despite the lop-sided score not in our favor, demonstrated the continued growth of this team of diversely-skilled players. The defenders showed more team awareness with greater communication and better timing, giving GK Ella respite at times from the battery. Midfielders were tireless and improved in their ability to anticipate when the defense was going to bring the ball out. The attack were much more alert as to when to clear the shooting area, allowing for several sweet goals.
