The JVs broke out of a 3-game losing streak with their most balanced performance of the season and coasted to a lopsided 55-14 victory at Wilton. Starters Mathias Allman, Isaiah Baker, Janai Cruz, Will Hogan and Messi Wu all scored as the Cougars built a 22-6 lead in the first quarter. With Will netting 4 of 4 from the foul line and Andy Warren netting a 3-pointer on his first shot of 2019, Derryfield extended its lead to 33-11 by halftime. Second half highlights included solid play by the five frosh – Janai, Will, Andy, Kaven Fitch and Tristan Allard. Playing together for the first time, they defended well as a unit and moved the ball effectively on offense with Kaven scoring twice with mid-range jumpers. Janai led Derryfield’s balanced scoring with 10. Will, Kaven and Andy each tallied 8. And leading rebounders Isaiah and Mathias added 7 and 6 respectively. Also noteworthy were Clarence Chen scoring his first basket as a JV, and Mike Yuan scoring his first this season.
