Builders' Club is the middle school community service club, sponsored by Kiwanas International. The purpose of Builders' Club is to introduce middle school students to the importance of community service and to begin developing leadership skills. The club meets twice per week, during activities periods.
Builders' Club participants have the opportunity to be involved in many different types of service, some during school time and some outside of school. During activities period, one might find Builders' Club members making sock dolls for children in a Romanian orphanage, getting ready to sell ice cream sundaes during lunch as a fund raiser, or putting together gift bags for residents of the local homeless shelter.
Once a week Builders' Club members travel to Webster Elementary School to read and work with immigrant and refugee students. Once a month students volunteer at New Horizons Soup Kitchen and Shelter, doing everything from stocking shelves to serving food.
Students are also encouraged to participate in many of the events organized by Key Club, our upper school service group. Some of these events include the Making Strides for Breast Cancer walk, the Walk Against Hunger, and the creation and delivery of Thanksgiving baskets for Manchester families in need.
Many other activities come up from year to year, depending on the needs of the community and the interests of the students. All Middle School students are encouraged to participate in some of these activities and are educated about the needs of the community and the value of service.
