Self-discovery through creative expression is fundamental to the liberal arts education. Active participation in the arts fosters positive intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and aesthetic development. The mission of the creative arts department at The Derryfield School is to engage the mind, brighten the spirit, and deepen the understanding of the world around us while inspiring imagination, conversation, and hope.
For students who can't get enough art, Art Club is a twice-weekly opportunity for students to use their activities period to create work outside of the classroom rigors. Art Club, in conjunction with the Advanced Studio Art class, plans several trips a year to view fine art venues. An overnight NYC romp is an annual trip, plus day opportunities to venues such as Boston, Storm King and Mass MOCA. Student work is frequently honored in various art programs, including the All State Arts Program, and many Derryfield alumni have gone on to study at Fine Arts Colleges.
Located in Manchester, NH, The Derryfield School is a private day school for grades 6-12. Students benefit from a challenging academic program, fine and performing arts, competitive athletics, and a wide selection of extracurricular activities.
