Derryfield's schedule works on a seven-day, waterfall rotation. Students' classes meet six times in a seven-day cycle. This means that one class period is dropped each day, which minimizes transitions and reduces the overall homework load.
The middle school daily schedule is designed to allow for an important, extended break in the middle of the day for community events/activities/advisory, lunch, and recess. E Block is reserved for study hall and performing arts group rehearsals.
All sixth graders end their day with physical education, and seventh and eight graders participate in two seasons of team sports. Those not on a team may be picked up at 2:20 or attend supervised study hall. Middle school dismissal is at 3:20, after which students may attend a supervised study hall in the Middle School until 4:00, and then move to the Library, where there will be a proctor until 6:00 p.m.
