Cougars Double Devils
Derryfield travelled to Epping and doubled up the Devils for a 42-21 win. It improved the JV Cougars’ season record to 11-2.
A quick glance at the scorebook, however, might have led to the conclusion that Epping started the game before Derryfield had arrived. The homestanding Blue Devils had built an 8-2 at the end of the first quarter.
But in the second the Cougars had gotten off of the bus, and awakened enough to take a 13-11 lead into halftime. Billy Gardner scored twice inside the arc. Logan Purvis scored a hoop inside and added two foul shots. Elias Kanteres hit a deuce, and Nate Boudreau dropped 1 of 2 from the foul line.
A 16-point third quarter boosted the visitors’ lead to double digits at 29-17. Hunter Crawford sank a 3-pointer to start the run. Elias, Nate, Logan and Alex Murray finished it.
In the fourth, Derryfield made the probable the inevitable. Nate made two driving layups and netted 4 for 4 at the foul line. Alex also scored twice inside the arc. Ben LaFlamme hit a foul shot to close the scoring.
Nate led the team with 12. Elias tallied 7. Billy and Logan each scored 6, and Alex added 5.
