TWO IN A ROW
The JVs topped PCA 40-26 to improve their record to 2-0 on the strength of strong first and third quarters.
Hunter Crawford hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key to open the scoring, but the pesky Eagles hung around until late in the third quarter. Billy Gardner scored 10 points in the first quarter, and Hunter closed the second quarter with another 3 to put Derryfield ahead 24-14 at halftime.
The backline of the Cougars’ 2-3 zone defense – Logan Purvis, Sam Fazelat and Hunter – controlled the boards against the scrappy visitors.
After the halftime break, that trio maintained its rebounding advantage. Billy and Elias Kanteres pushed the ball up court. Sam closed the quarter with back-to-back 3-pointers to build the Derryfield lead to 38-18.
Nate Boudreau, Ben LaFlamme, Andy Dell’Orfano, Connor Bradley and Jon Martinez secured the win over the final minutes.
Billy and Sam each scored 10. Hunter and Elias added 9 apiece. Logan led the rebounders, and Billy, Elias and Nate handled PCA’s frantic attempts to apply defensive pressure.
