Derryfield vs. Epping
Coach Coward
DERRYFIELD 71 – EPPING 35 Breaking out of the opening-game doldrums, Derryfield took a lead over visiting Epping in the second quarter, and rolled on in the second half to a 71-35 victory. It was a fine performance for the home team as all 16 players contributed. Alex Murray and Elias Kanteres combined for Derryfield’s 11 first quarter points, with Billy Gardner running the offense and Logan Purvis and Hunter Crawford controlling the boards. But Epping stayed even led by freshman Bill Snyder. Derryfield pulled ahead in the second quarter as Sam Fazelat hit a pair of 3-pointers, Billy, Logan, Alex and Hunter all scored, and Nate Boudreau netted 3 of 4 his foul shots. And the defense tightened to limit Epping to 7 points and build a 30-18 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Billy scored on three driving layups. Connor Bradley scored twice inside, and Andy Dell’Orfano swished a 3 as the Cougars outscored the Blue Devils 23-4. Newt Kershaw tallied 7 points in the fourth as the home team secured its opening game win. Alex led the balanced Derryfield scoring with 11. Nate and Sam added 10 apiece, and Billy scored 8 as 13 of the 16 JVs scored. Logan anchored the 2-3 zone defense and with Elias, Hunter and Sam controlled the boards.
