Derryfield vs. St. Thomas

Coach Hettler
On Wednesday the boys jv and varsity lacrosse team welcomed the red hot St. Thomas Saints to the Cougar Bowl for the final regular season game of the spring. St. Thomas had rattled off an impressive eight straight wins including wins over Windham and Winnacunnet to find themselves at 10-3 and in a battle with us for the second overall seed. Our boys understood the significance of the game and went to work early and often.

The offense got off to a great start with sophomore Alex Murray (5-2) finding the back of the net off a feed from junior Tate Flint (2 and 1) followed by goals from sophomore Chili Cabot (1-1), freshman RJ Proulx (2-0) and junior Quinn Silvio (4-3) to take a 4-0 lead before STA responded. Tate and Quinn would score again to cap off an amazing first quarter which saw us extend the lead to 6-1. Quinn had a huge third quarter scoring three more along with Tate and Alex to extend our halftime lead to 10-3. Tate's first goal of the game was also his 100th career goal, congrats Tate. Coming out of halftime, momentum needed to be maintained and the boys did a great job of killing a man down penalty and tying the quarter 2-2 behind goals from Alex and RJ. Freshman Liam Canty (0-1) found RJ on the crease. With the game in hand, Alex Murray finished off the scoring in the fourth putting home two more for the final 14-5. Sophomore Logan Purvis had another big day at the X winning 12 of 19 behind great wing play from juniors Ethan Flanagan (5 GB's) and Will Perkins (2 GB's). Freshman Logan Dyer also did a nice job at midfield and attack. Sophomore Michael Grunbeck also saw action on attack.

On defense sophomore Max Fowler (3 GBs and 1A) had a big day in transition and on close defense shutting down one of STA's top scoring threats. Junior Dugan Brewer-Little (5 GB's) shut down STA's other top gun, frustrating him all day long. Junior Jared Moulton played with great off ball awareness and junior Tyler Lautieri did a great job running LSM and playing close defense holding STA's top midfielder to just one goal. Junior Ethan Flanagan was again an MVP between the lines, on 6v6 defense and on man down.

The JV team also picked up another win yesterday 8-5 behind a hat trick by junior Marshall Reilly (3-1), senior Evan Cote (2-0), freshman Logan Dyer (1-0), junior Calvin Reilly (1-0) and sophomore Michael "Mac Truck" Grunbeck (1-1). Junior Will Perkins (0-2) had two nice assists along with goaltender Gabe Poritzky who also had an assist. Gabe also made 5 saves in the win. Junior Mitch Cayer (2 GB's) did a great job in the faceoff circle and may have developed a new skill and role on the team! Junior Sam Hines and sophomore's Avery Bracy and Jamie Collins and freshman Dylan Clyne did a nice job at midfield. The defense played well in front of Gabe with sophomore Tyler Marsden (2 GB's) leading the way along with sophomore's Quinn McGinley (1 GB), Elias Kanteres (1 GB), junior Josue Perez (1 GB) and freshman Caleb May (1 GB).

With the win the varsity team improves to 12-3 while the JV team improves to 10-2-1. The boys return to action Friday to wrap up the regular season against the Alvirne Broncos...until then...we are...
