Auburn Pitching Holds Cougars Down in 7-0 Victory
The Cougars scattered just four hits and no runs facing tough pitching from the visiting Auburn squad. “It seems we had a bit of an offensive carryover from yesterday’s game,” commented Coach Blaisdell after the loss, adding, “Tomorrow we’ll get back in the batting cage and see if we can get the offensive swag back that we had before this week started.” The Cougars will need to get their bats going again as they try to make the six-team Tri-County league playoffs. Coach Townsend commented, “We continue to pitch well and play good defense, so I know we are close to putting it all together.” The combination of Jake Larson (2 ⅓ innings, 3K), Jack Lewis 3 ⅓ innings, 3K), and Keith Townsend (1 ⅓ innings, 2K) did well to keep the Cougars within striking distance for much of the game. The defense did their part, as well, with LF Sam Clarke making a clutch stab on a line drive in the sixth inning, 2B Adam Willett going a perfect 4-for-4 with putouts, and the combination of 3B Noah Barreto-Willett-1B Max Larson spinning a sharp 5-4-3 double play in the second inning. We will see if the Cougars can their offense back on track for the final regular season game this Thursday at Epping.
