Cougars Bats Cool Down in Loss to Timberlane 3-2
The Cougars began their busy week with a tough loss to the Timberlane Owls 3-2. After scoring two runs in their first at bat, the visiting Cougars jumped out to an early lead as P Adam Willett and 3B Jake Larson both crossed the plate. That would be the last runs for Derryfield who just seemed to hit the ball at people or just foul. “Sometimes you have days when the ball just seems to go to fielders,” commented Coach Blaisdell, “or, like Max (1B Larson) today, you hit bombs that go just foul.” The Cougar defense and pitching kept them in the game. Willett saw his first action of the year on the mound, pitching six complete innings with three strikeouts and only one unearned run. Added Coach Blaisdell, “Adam was terrific today. He pounded the strike zone and kept us in the game with a chance to win. He should be proud of his effort in his first outing for DS baseball.” Willett helped himself by catching a couple pop-ups while LF Sam Clarke was 2-2 on putouts and CF made a clutch catch with bases loaded in the third inning. Down a run, 2B Noah Barreto led off the sixth with a line shot up the middle. He then broke for second base on a steal, but was doubled up when Clarke popped up to the catcher. “It just didn’t break our way today,” added Coach Townsend, “but we will be ready to bounce back tomorrow when we face Auburn at home.”
