Track Meet @ Winnisquam 4/20
The Derryfield Track & Field Team traveled out to Tilton on Wednesday night to compete against Winnisquam, Bishop Brady, and Laconia in their second meet of the season.
Our team is lucky to have a stellar group of returning track athletes this year, and their experience & event expertise truly shone through as old best performances were shattered. Their leadership and guidance helped push our news additions to the team to some very competitive performances.
Our Girls Team took 2nd overall, with a score of 35 points, just inching out ahead of Winnisquam High School by two points!
The Boys Team took 3rd overall with a score of 19 points, beating out Laconia by just 2 points.
Sahmi Dominguez, Sarah Murphy, and Chelsea Pham started us off strong in the throwing sector, with Sahmi taking the win in shot put with a throw of 22' 1.75", Sarah taking second with 21' 3.25", and Chelsea coming in strong with a throw of 17' 9.75". Sarah also took first in the discus and smashed her personal best mark from 2021 with a throw of 81'.
Out on the track, Emma Beuerle, Kennedy Amorim, Jaylyn Pelletier, Grey Donahue, and Chelsea Pham started us off in the 100 meter dash. Both Chelsea and Kennedy PR'd in this event, breaking their times from 2021 by chopping off close to a full second (that's no joke in the 100 dash!). It was Emma, Jaylyn, and Grey's first time competing in the 100 as an individual event, and the evidence of all the hard work they've been putting in getting out of blocks was clear!
Senior Eliza Lamont was the sole DS representative in the girls
1600 meter race, and she ran all 4 laps with the patience & experience of a veteran runner. She finished 2nd in a time of 7:03, just 6 seconds off of her all time best performance in the event - an extremely strong start to the competitive season!
In the boys 1600 meter, Nate Barrett took 3rd overall and impressed all of us with a time of 5 minutes and 48 seconds - an amazing place to start off the season! Jon Flinkfelt followed closely behind to take 4th in 5 mins 58 seconds. Alexander Teng ran the mile for the first time with a solid time of 7 minutes flat.
Next up in the 400 meter dash, Kennedy came through with her second PR of the day, cutting off 11 seconds from her previous personal best in this event! For those of you who know the 400...that is a near impossible feat! Skylar Wagner traded in her distance shoes to compete in the 400 for the first time, and took 5th overall with a time of 1:18.
Also in the 400, Ben LaFlamme cruzed through the finish in 1:04 to take 3rd, and Alex DeGregorio PR'd by two seconds with a time of 1:08!
In the 800, Jaylyn Pelletier took 1st place in 3 minutes 9 seconds, with Skylar Wagner taking over an impressive 2nd place with a time of 3 minutes 13 seconds. Adam Henderson was the boys' representative for this mid-distance event with a time of 2 minutes, 42 seconds.
In the 200 meter sprint, Grey Donahue and Alexander DeGregorio represented DS, fighting off a strong headwind in the backstretch around the corner. Despite the wind, Alex earned a second PR of the day with a time of 29.68 seconds.
Junior Ben Roy took on the 3200 for the first time ever on Wednesday night, taking 1st place by nearly a minute with a time of 12 minutes 12 seconds!
The boys 4x4 relay wrapped things up on the track, with Jon Flinkfelt, Nate Barrett, Adam Henderson, and Ben LaFlamme giving everything they had on tired legs to run a combined time of 4:37.
Keep up the amazing work, Cougars! We can't wait to see how far you'll go!
