Multicultural Potluck Celebration
The tables were laden with foods from nineteen countries, and music from different cultures filled the air at the April 16 potluck dinner sponsored by the Derryfield Multicultural Student Union (MSU). Sambusa from Rwanda. Lamejun from Armenia. Chicken Momo from Nepal. Tortilla Espanola from Spain. Chinese pumpkin pie. An appreciative crowd that included Derryfield students, siblings, parents, teachers, and guests from other high schools sampled all these dishes and more during an inaugural community event that sparked both appetites and conversations.
The MSU, which strives to bring awareness to and representation of the diverse cultures within the Derryfield community, hoped the potluck supper would help the club to achieve this goal. Jen Pei ‘23, co-president of the club, said the members have aspirations for an even larger event next year, with the addition of performances and artwork representing different cultures. The MSU also would like to invite many more students from Manchester-area schools, so that Derryfield students could make connections within the wider international community.
