Derryfield vs. Hopkinton part 1

Coach Hettler
On Tuesday the boys Varsity and JV lacrosse team traveled north looking to avenge their first loss of the season against the three time defending division 3 champions, the Hopkinton Hawks. Our boys came out excited and executed about as well as we could have hoped to. Eight different players scored at least one point, with six scoring multiple points.

The offense got rolling early when senior Ryan Etzo (2 and3) drove the left side finding fellow senior Cole Giersch (3g) on a well executed lefty cut and finish in close. Cole would finish the first half with an early hat trick. That goal set the tone for some beautiful passes in both 6v6 and in fast break transitions all day. Sophomore Quinn Silvio (3g) would score his first of three at the end of the second quarter to give us an 8-2 halftime lead. At halftime we talked about keeping the foot on the pedal and not giving Hopkinton life. The boys responded with a big second half from freshman Chili Cabot (4g) and Alex Murray (2 and 1). Senior captain Chas Dean (2 and 3) came to life for four points in the second half along with fellow senior Kyle Carpentier (1g) who would finish 17/23 at the faceoff X. Freshman Logan Purvis also got to get in the action at the faceoff X continuing to show great promise for the future! Senior Colby Muise played great between the lines in both the offensive and defensive ends of the field collecting GB's and helping the clearing game. With the game in hand it allowed us to give valuable minutes and experience to junior Evan Cote who would record his first assist of the season along with the Reilly brothers Calvin (attack) and Marshall (midfield).

The defense responded well to the challenge of playing physical, but clean. Seniors Will Mancini (4GB's) and Andrew Wold (4GB's) were very active in the clearing game. Sophomore Tyler Lautieri (3GB's) continues to play well along with fellow sophomore Dugan Brewer Little (2GB's) and Jared Moulton (2GB's). Seniors Ryan Caparrelli (7 saves) and Liam Hill (3 saves) would split game action to earn the victory.

The JV team got back in action dropping a heartbreaker 7-6. However a lot of positive things came out of the game. Sophomore Calvin Reilly (3g) had his best game of the season recording a hat trick doing everything he could to try to help the boys win. Michael Grunbeck on attack also had a nice off ball game with two beautiful cuts and finishes for goals. Marshall Reilly (1 and 1) also had a nice game recording a goal and an assist. Freshman Parker Lebiedz continues his assent towards being our next great goalie with eight saves and some really nice outlets in the clearing game. Freshman Gabe Poritzky has continued to show promise at the faceoff X combining with Logan to win six of ten faceoffs. Freshman midfielders Tyler Marsden and Jacob Willett along with junior James Rogers also played well throughout the game on both the offensive and defensive side of the field.

Great job, boys! The team and I continue to send our best wishes to our teammates who are home quarantining. We miss you and can't wait for your return! The team returns to action this Friday in the Cougar Bowl for a rematch against the Hawks...until then...we are...
