4-3-2-1? Not the count to start but rather our lap count! Our first race at Proctor Academy was 4 laps, our second race at Dublin was 3 laps and our race at Waterville was 2 laps. Next week is supposed to be a one lap classic race at Dublin - on a super low snow year, we’ll take what we can get!
Our first race of the season at Proctor on January 15th on a man made short loop showed the team has depth and experience and some amazing skiing! The boys took first place for the team with Andrew L taking 3rd, Andrew W. taking 4th, Emmet in 5th and Dugan in 7th! Evan took 10th, Jackson 12th, Colin 14th, Micah 15th, and Ben in 23rd (his first race ever!) out of a total of 35. The girls were led by Katherine in 2nd, Cea in 7th, and Eleanor in 11th with 35 girls racing as well. Concord hosted the skate race which also included Kearsarge and Winnicunnet.
Our second race at the Dublin School on January 20th was a 3 lap skate race against Lebanon, Conval, Souhegan and Memorial. Once again Katherine led the way for the girls taking 3rd place, Cea took 11th, Eleanor 18th and Caden 31st. For the boys Andrew L took 3rd, Andrew W 7th, Emmet 8th, Dugan 9th, Evan 16th, Jackson 20th, Colin 21st, Micah 23rd, Ben 28th, Will 30th and Liam 35th. Both Boys and Girls team took 2nd place. A crowded race including poles ripped off hands and some hard climbing made it memorable!
Derryfield hosted the third race on January 27th at Waterville - a 2 lap skate race with lots of spectators to cheer them on. Once again the boys and girls teams took second place! Katherine took the gold with Cea in 4th, Eleanor in 11th and Caden in 21st. Andrew W. took the bronze, followed directly by Andrew L in 4th, Emmet in 8th, Dugan in 10th, Colin in 17th, Evan in 18th, Micah 20th, Jackson 24th, Will in 29th and Liam in 36th. Our lone middle skier Thomas skied his first race ever beating both other middle schoolers and a few high school skiers! The opponents were White Mountain, Bow, and Manchester. Many thanks to all the DS parents who helped with all the logistics of the race!
Now onto classic skiing!
