Another fabulous day! Cloudy skies, cool temperatures and firm snow made for a great day of racing. DS met up with rivals Sunapee, Hopkinton (Division 3), Trinity, and Hillsboro-Deering for a 2 run GS race followed by a 2 run SL race on Eggbeater. The girls started us out in GS in a short and tight course. Freshman Lilly Handwerk skied 2 clean runs to land her in 3rd place, followed right behind by Sophomore Anya Merriman in 5th place. Our remaining four girls, Freshman Mia Dudley, Freshman Olivia Brar, Sophomore Alyssa Shula, and Sophomore Kate Moeckel, all finished in the next .58 seconds (combined) to take 10th, 11th, 12, and 13th! Strong skiing from every one of you and another 1st place team finish (tie with Trinity) for the girls!! Woo-hoo!
The boys followed in GS and set down some beautiful runs, landing 4 boys in the top 10, and securing a first place team finish with 383 points! Senior Captain Frankie Brandt won the race and Sophomore Logan Goldberg joined him on the podium in third place. Senior Aiden LaCroix and Sophomore Jack Schroeder finished off our scoring with 7th and 10th place finishes, respectively. Senior Andrew Wold was right behind them in 11th, Senior Christopher Lynch in 17th, Senior Max Smith in 20th, Freshman Fin Pellerin in 21st, Sophomore Artem Yurovskiy in 25th, and Sophomore Evan Zhang in 27th. Senior Christopher VanNatta had a great second run, but was disqualified for a first run error.
With no access to the lodge, the teams ate a quick 10 minute lunch in the parking lot and promptly returned for a SL race. The girls stepped it up again and put all 6 girls in the top 13, for another 1st place finish with 382 team points! Lilly stayed on that podium with a 2nd place finish, Anya in 5th, Mia in 7th, Alyssa in 8th, Olivia in 12th and Kate in 13th. Hopefully these girls will keep stepping it up right into States. Unbeaten so far!!
The boys had some stiff competition for SL today and just missed a second place team finish by one point with 375 team points to Sunapee's 376 points and Hopkinton's 383. Logan lead the pack with a 2nd place finish, Frankie fell on his first run but managed to bounce right back and finish in 6th place. Aiden and Jack again finished out the scoring in 9th and 12th places. The remainder of the boys all had impressive top 25 finishes, with Andrew in 14th, Christopher Lynch in 16th, Max in 18th, Chris VanNatta in 20th, Artem in 22nd, Fin in 23rd and Evan in 25th. Really nice job boys and we loved the enthusiasm today. You have the momentum going to come up strong at States!
Great teamwork and awesome skiing! Ski fast, have fun, beat everyone!!
