Winter Athletic Recap
Alpine State Championships: Congrats to our Alpine teams and coaches Fortier and Goldberg, who successfully guided our boys' and girls' alpine teams to a 4th and 5th place finish respectively. They also helped to land four athletes in the Meet of Champions at Cannon. Read a full recap here.
Swimming State Championships: The Derryfield swim team traveled to UNH on Saturday, February 15 for the D2 State swimming and diving championships. Highlights from the day include Kyra Chen winning gold in the 50 free and bronze in the 100 free and Natalie Young taking a silver and bronze in the IM and backstroke. The 400 yard freestyle team also took home the silver. Overall the girls finished 4th. Read a full recap here.
Emma Ward at Gymnastics States:
Emma finished off her high school gymnastic career in style with fantastic results, competing as an individual representing Derryfield. Emma took 5th in bars, 6th in beam, 8th on floor, 19th in the vault and 6th in the all around. Her efforts and results earned her a spot in the New England championships.
Girls' Basketball Finishes Regular Season The varsity girls' basketball finished the regular season with a 13-5 record and is awaiting seeding for the DIV State Championship tournament, which starts Monday, February 24.
Max Byron Hits 1000 Points:
Congrats to Max on achieving the incredible milestone of 1000 career points. Max reached the milestone in the game against the Newmarket Mules. Please join us Friday, February 21, when we will honor Max's milestone along with the rest of his senior teammates before the game against PCA on senior night. Read more about Max's story here. The team has a 9-7 record with two games left in the season.
Nordic at Souhegan Sprints The Nordic team had a great day at the Souhegan Sprints on Saturday at Plainfield. On a sparkling cold day the team did their first ever sprints which included a mass start qualifier in the morning and A and B sprint heats after lunch. Eleanor took third in the B’s, Jackson took second in the B’s and Katherine came home with the gold winning the girls’ A’s handily. For the first time doing sprint racing, this was a very impressive day for Derryfield Nordic!
Ice Hockey Breaks OT Drought There is a saying of getting the monkey off one's back: to remove or solve a problem that has been difficult to get rid of or solve. Our ice hockey team got a much needed win and boost of confidence Wednesday night as they won 4-3 in OT against ConVal after three tough overtime losses. Cole Giersch got back on the score sheet with the game winner, assisted by Aidan Chretien. The Derryfield/Hollis-Brookline team has an 11-4 record in NHIAA DIII with three games left in the regular season.
