Diane Hotten-Somers, Ph.D.
While Dr. Diane Hotten-Somers has lived in New England for 24 years now, she grew up frolicking on the California beaches and left her heart in San Francisco, her hometown. Diane completed her undergraduate studies in English at UC Santa Barbara before moving to Boston with her husband to complete her graduate studies, where she received her Master's in English from Boston College and her Ph.D. in American Studies from Boston University. Diane has lectured and published widely on Irish and American culture and literature. Her first 20 years of teaching took place at the college level, but Diane has found her forever educational home at Derryfield, where she is the Co-Chair of the English Department, coordinates our community meetings, and loves teaching 11th and 12th grade English. When she's not conferencing with her students, she loves being outdoors, either skiing, hiking, kayaking, or surfing with her family, or going to any hip hop concert in a drivable distance.
Located in Manchester, NH, The Derryfield School is a private day school for grades 6-12. Students benefit from a challenging academic program, fine and performing arts, competitive athletics, and a wide selection of extracurricular activities.
