Following his graduation from Colgate University in 2002, Chris Hettler started at Derryfield as a middle school science teacher and is now our school’s Director of Athletics. While at Colgate, he was a goaltender for the men’s lacrosse team and a four-year letterman. He carried his lacrosse success to Derryfield as he took over the boys’ lacrosse program, which he transformed into a Division II varsity powerhouse, while also playing professionally for the Boston Cannons from 2004 to 2008. Under his leadership, the boys’ lacrosse team has won numerous state championships across Division II and III, and were most recently crowned Division II state champions in 2019, their fourth in as many years. Chris has earned accolades for his coaching and in 2009 and 2010, he was named Division III Coach of the Year and Union Leader Coach of the Year for New Hampshire Lacrosse. Chris was most recently named Division II Coach of the Year in 2018. Adding to his lacrosse accomplishments, he has been involved with the English and German Men’s National teams, leading them to great success. At Derryfield, he has also served as the head coach for the middle school cross country team, JV golf team and the varsity boys’ and girls’ alpine skiing teams winning State titles in 2010, 2014 and 2016.
