Interior Journey: Paintings & Monotypes by Abba Cudney
December 9, 2019 - January 24, 2020
Closing Reception January 24, 2020, 6:00-7:00 p.m.
The Derryfield School Lyceum Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Interior Journey, a solo exhibition of paintings and prints by Rhode-Island-based artist, Abba Cudney. She paints the theme of the interior, giving specific attention and time to the moments that occur within those spaces. In order to capture a specific moment as well as the essence of the space, Cudney’s work is simultaneously representational, loose, and gestural, allowing room for memory and nostalgia to exist on the surface. Although each interior is a place from Cudney’s memory of a lived experience, she intentionally leaves people out of her work in the hopes that the viewer will bring their own narratives and memories into the spaces she paints and creates.
Raised in Chicago, IL, Cudney studied painting and printmaking at the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH. Abba Cudney currently lives in Providence, Rhode Island and teaches at the Providence Art Club.
Abba Cudney’s work has been exhibited nationally, most recently at the Pittman Gallery and Mott and Chace Sotheby’s in Providence, Rhode Island, The Vault Gallery in Manchester, NH, Launch F18 in New York, New York, Gallery 263 in Cambridge, MA, and Canterbury Shaker Village in Canterbury, NH.
