September Construction Update
The sights and sounds of construction have been omnipresent on campus for many months. With the opening of school, and the imminent arrival of fall, we have reached a new level of activity. The clock is ticking toward a November completion of both the Science and Innovation (S&I) and the Athletic and Wellness (A&W) projects. Here is a quick update on construction activities.
Members of the community have shown amazing patience and understanding as we make the final push; parking has been a challenge, and noise and dust have become a way of life. The site contractor is working on the circle at the entrance to the A&W Center, and soon we’ll be able to push back the fence and have access to more parking spaces.
Inside the Athletic & Wellness Center, the installation of the basketball courts has begun, followed shortly thereafter by the bleachers. On the roof, the solar panels have been installed. While we were at it, solar panels have been installed on the roof of the Auditorium, as well.
Inside the Science and Innovation Center (behind the colorful murals), crews are hanging drywall, installing flooring, and assembling cabinets and shelving. We plan on saving the murals when the doors and windows are installed and provide us a glimpse inside the space.
We don’t yet know the precise date when we will be able to occupy both spaces. We feel confident both will be available for the start of the second trimester and the first varsity basketball games. Between now and then, there’s much work still to be completed. This includes ordering and installing furniture and equipment, coordinating the packing and unpacking of classrooms and athletic equipment, landscaping, and irrigation. The end is in sight!
