VARSITY WIN 7-1 UNDER THE LIGHTS
Derryfield returned to their home turf in front of a large group of spectators for a "Friday Night Lights" game vs Portsmouth HS. The visitors shocked the home team by scoring the first goal of the game, but this seemed to sting Derryfield into action and they were back on level terms within a minute when Lindsey Stagg equalized with a penalty stroke. Midway through the half, Kira Geddes scored Derryfield's second, picking up a rebound off a save by the Portsmouth keeper. The home team kept up the pressure, forcing a number of corners and free hits just outside the circle. Anna Templeton, who had just come on the field was in the right position to deflect shots from Lindsey and score two goals inside two minutes just before half time to give Derryfield a comfortable 4-1 lead and effectively kill the game. Derryfield added three more in the second half when Kira scored her second of the game and Lindsey completed her hat-trick, her third one in four games for a total of 11 goals so far. In midfield, Charlotte Rohlfs and Charlotte Gleichauf dominated, providing great transition and worked tirelessly in creating many chances for the DS attack. Forwards, Hannah Perlberg, Maddy Brown, Paige Grondin Sami King, Kira and Anna were a constant threat to the Portsmouth defence, creating many opportunities and forcing corners. In defense, Anna Quinn, Bella Matarese and Tiana Content were strong tacklers, read the game well, often stepping up to intercept any potential threat from the visitors. Outside backs, Julia Tilton, Anna Induni and Lauren MacLean did an excellent marking job, made many probing passes to the midfield and forwards as well as providing good cover when needed behind the full backs. In goal, Olivia Bollengier did have to make one save later in the game. Next week is a challenging one for the team with three games: at Hollis-Brookline on Monday, home vs Bow HS on Wednesday and an away game at Pelham on Friday.
