A New Terrain
September 5 - October 11, 2019
Reception for the artist: October 4, 2019, from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M.
The Derryfield School Lyceum Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of A New Terrain, a solo exhibition of multimedia artwork by New Hampshire-based artist, Erin Sweeney. Having lived a nomadic life, Sweeney demonstrates in her work a desire to “stay put.” Her work explores the memories of places, past and present, and a sense of belonging to a particular landscape or community. In this exhibit, Sweeney invites viewers to consider their own idea of home and the architecture or landscape associated with it.
Erin Sweeney lives and works in southern New Hampshire. She received her MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she was awarded the Elizabeth C. Roberts Prize for Graduate Book Arts. She also has a BFA in Sculpture from the Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine. Sweeney is a member of the NH State Council on the Arts’ Artist Roster and is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Art and Design at New England College.
Erin Sweeney’s work has been exhibited nationally, most recently at the Lewis Gallery in the Portland Public Library in Portland, Maine, Kelley Stelling Contemporary in Manchester, New Hampshire, and the Sharon Arts Center in Peterborough, New Hampshire, and was the recent recipient of a Ruth and James Ewing Award for 3D Visual Arts. Additionally, Sweeney is an instructor, teaching book arts workshops at her Lovely In The Home Press. She also travels to teach workshops at many locales, including Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Stone House, the University of Southern Maine’s Book Arts Intensive; Philadelphia Museum of Art, Cló Ceardlann in Donegal, Ireland, and the Philadelphia Center for the Book.
A New Terrain runs from September 5 through October 11, 2019. The Gallery is open weekdays, 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. There will be a reception for the artist on Friday, October 4, from 6:00-7:00 P.M.
