Cougars Drop A Close One to Chester, 7-6
The Cougars gave up a lead in the bottom of the sixth inning and left the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh to lose a heartbreaker to Chester by a single run. "This one stings a little," commented Coach Blaisdell, "because we took a 6-2 run lead into the sixth inning. Honestly, we seemed a little flat today, especially as the game wore on. I take responsibility for that as a coach. I need to find a way to keep these guys energized for the full game." The Cougars got six runs on only three hits by Mitch Regan, Alex Comire, and Brendan Mulcahy. They took full advantage of walks in the second to jump out to an early 4-0 lead. Both teams added single runs in their respective halves of the third and fourth innings, with the Cougars runs scored by Regan and Owen Clemans. The Cougars ran into trouble in the sixth and could not close the door on a Chester rally before they gave up five runs and the lead. Mulcahy struck out the side in the seventh to keep the Cougars within a single run. With one out, Comire and Mulcahy reached on consecutive errors and Clemans drew a walk to load the bases, but the Cougar rally would end there. Quipped Coach Brandt, "We were a wild pitch away from tying the game, but lady luck didn't show her face. Ultimately, though, we need to learn to earn each victory." The Cougars next game is home on Monday versus Candia.
