Derryfield Boys Tennis Has Tough Loss vs Central
On one of the first days of nice tennis weather all season, the Cougars faced off with a match-hardened team of upperclassmen on the Central squad. Playing on only three courts with the smell of Dunkin Donuts in the background, this was going to be a long one. In singles, Junior captain Tyler Critz battled Central senior Alex Haddad in a long match, but fell 8-3 despite outplaying him in many of the games. Sophomore #2 Max Smith put together one of his best matches of the season using his forehand to dictate points and to force errors, eventually taking the match 8-5. At numbers 3 and 4 Brady McGinley and Chris Lynch lost to two net-crashing opponents 2-8 and 1-8. Seniors David Doan (Captain) and Nick Sperduto squared off against two backboards, but although putting up valiant efforts, they succumbed 5-8 and 6-8. In doubles the guys fought hard losing numbers 1 and 2, but Chris Lynch and Nick Sperduto through great net play and strong serving won 8-5. Final score: Central 7, DS 2.
