Math Team Continues to Add Up Wins
Derryfield's Math Team continues to thrive and grow, testing their computational skills in state-wide and regional competitions. On the home front, the team won the NH SMASH season for the small division - their main travel competition for a season that extends over five months. Sophomore Clarence Chen won third best full season score for all sophomores in NH SMASH.
The team also won the 47th Annual NH State Mathematics Contest for the medium division - this is a one-day event, but has more teams so is a notch higher in difficulty and accomplishment. In addition to this team achievement, sophomore James Zhu won individual recognition for achieving a perfect score in the algebra section. Only a handful of students in New Hampshire reach this level of accomplishment each year.
Looking farther afield, the team also traveled to WPI and Harvard for single day events although we didn't win any placements in those contests. Senior Marshal Dong won a $1,000 scholarship to WPI for scoring highest among our team.
To keep their skills sharp, members of the math team also compete monthly in NEML (New England Math League), which are contests held at the school during activities block, with results being logged in online. If you are interested in learning more about the math team, contact Mr. Induni.
