Boys' Alpine Takes Bronze in GS and Slalom at States

Chris Hettler
On Thursday after a snow delay from Wednesday the boys Varsity alpine team traveled west to host States at Crotched Mtn. against 11 other divisional rivals.  We couldn't have asked for better conditions. Bright blue sky, corduroy snow and temps in the low 30's made for a picture perfect day and while our team has not always skied as pretty as they and we would have liked this season...they came darn close to skiing perfect today.  Very proud of you boys today.  I know how badly you guys wanted to win, but you have nothing to hang your heads about.  You skied hard, smart and most importantly like a team.  Coach Ellinwood and I couldn't ask for more.  Thank you!
In the morning the boys went a perfect 12/12 completing GS runs.  Something we hadn't done all season.  Sophomore Charlie Bulter had a wonderful upbeat attitude all day and skied happy and free resulting in two very good runs to finish 7th overall and land in the Meet of Champions.  Senior Captain Kyle Goldberg was a rock and skied his way into the Meet of Champions as well with an 11th place finish followed closely by sophomore Frankie Brandt in 12th. Fellow sophomore Nathan Dudley finished the morning scoring for the boys finishing 16th, while junior Captain Henry Howe also finished top 20 in 18th.  Sophomore Aiden Lacroix skiing in just his first State stepped up his game to finish 26th and complete a very solid morning for the boys.
The afternoon left us in a position with nothing to lose and the need to push ourselves to the limit. Charlie (4th) and Kyle (7th) once again stepped up to take the lead and build momentum.  Frankie capped off his break through season with another top 20 finishing 17th, while Aiden finished the scoring for us with a top 25 finishing 22nd and showing us the future is bright!  Henry and Nathan both had ripping runs going in their 1st runs before finding trouble only to rebound to post the 7th and 18th fastest runs on their 2nd runs to ski away feeling good having left it on the hill.
With today's results Kyle and Charlie will join Miranda and Maddie at the Meet of Champs on Feb. 28th at Cannon.  Congrats boys!
Boys, I know it wasn't the result we had hoped for, but you skied so well today and it was a lot of fun to watch you. Please, keep your heads up and look forward to next season!  We are a young team and return a great core next year to #RaceFastTakeChancesBeatEveryone
Thank you,
Coach Hettler and Ellinwood
