Ann DiPastina ’11

Cornell University ’15
Field Hockey

Over the past four years, I was lucky enough to be a part of the Cornell University Field Hockey team, and I can safely say that I would not be where I am today without the influence of my teammates and coaches. At Derryfield, Coach McCaigue laid the foundation for sportsmanship, inner courage, and calculated risktaking.

Playing a Division I college sport is no cake walk—you have to embrace the difficult times and conquer them as a unit. You have to be able to recognize your flaws and correct them for the team to succeed. Over my athletic career, I learned to relish the challenge of working tirelessly towards achieving a goal.

Now that I’ve graduated from Cornell and in my first year at Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, I’m ready to move on to other chapters of my life, and I look forward to beginning a career in food animal medicine. While the future is unpredictable, I know I will always carry with me the lessons I learned in leadership, communication, and perseverance during my time as both a Derryfield and Cornell field hockey player.
