Creative Arts offerings enhance the skills taught in every classroom at Derryfield. The visual arts at Derryfield invite students to take risks and explore a variety of media and techniques. Through a range of experiences, they build technical and transferable skills, including, but not limited to, critical and creative thinking, empathy, and problem-solving. We offer a range of courses at both introductory and advanced levels. Off-campus learning opportunities to visit regional museums, galleries, and artist studios provide a deeper enrichment and engagement. Further, visiting artist workshops and master classes enhance student learning and understanding.
Middle school and upper school Art Clubs, after-school Open Studios, and Independent Studies courses offer students of all art abilities time to engage in the artistic process. Annual participation in the juried Scholastic Art Awards and off-campus exhibition opportunities celebrate the achievements of our student artists. In addition, students work is always on the display throughout our campus and is often featured in the Lyceum Gallery. Our program supports advanced study and pursuit of the visual arts at the college level and beyond.
