Upper School

Sample Schedule

Small enough and smart enough to truly personalize each learning experience.
Derryfield's schedule works on a seven-day, waterfall rotation. Students' classes meet six times in a seven-day cycle. This means that one class period is dropped each day, which minimizes transitions and allows for longer class times.

A daily community block is designed to allow for an important break in the middle of the day for the Derryfield community to gather for All-School Assembly, participate in activities, meet as advisory groups, or get help from teachers. Upper school lunch is split into two parts, with lunch during the first or last 35 minutes, and class during the remaining 50 minutes. The final period of the day is 66 minutes long, to allow for more in-depth exploration, labs, and projects.

Classes end at 2:45. All upper school students participate in two seasons of sports, whether on a competetive team, in a weight, yoga or dance class, or as an independent sport. Students not involved in sports remain in the Library, where a proctor will be posted until 6:00 p.m.
