His visit, arranged by Director of College Counseling Brennan Barnard, had been advertised to the community, but the subtext of the author's visit was unclear. Would the author, who wrote a book about his transfer from Brown to Liberty University during his sophomore year, target religious fundamentalists? Or would he proselytize?

 | Derryfield's Second Annual Poetry Out Loud Competition 2/1/2010
Sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, the annual Poetry Out Loud competition returned for the second year to the stage of the performing arts auditorium. The program "encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance" with the goal of helping students "master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage."

 | Seventh Grade Music Class Gets a Taste of India 1/14/2010 Laurel Devino's seventh grade music class had first-hand experience with percussion instruments from halfway around the world on January 5. Suresh Mathur, grandfather of class member Katelyn, visited Derryfield to demonstrate the use of Tabla, percussion instruments used in Hindustani music, a classical style from Northern India.
